Implant Dentistry
The best way to regain that natural feel and look is through implants. Implants can support crowns, bridges, and partial and full dentures.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a titanium post that is placed in the jawbone carefully. It will replace the roots of the missing tooth. Once placed the tissue is allowed to heal. Bone will grow around the implant to create anchor the bone grows up and around the implant to create a strong anchor for a replacement tooth.
Implants have been around for some time in the dental community but recently their popularity has increased as they have proved to be a permanent solution to many dental complications due to missing teeth. The best candidates for implants are patients that have healthy gums and bone support. Get in touch with us so we can schedule a consultation.
If there is not enough bone to support the implant your dentist will do a procedure called bone graph. In this procedure, artificial bone or harvested bone from the patient will be inserted at the same time or in an earlier procedure prior to the implant placement. This way the success of the implant is warranted.
A few implant structures will be:
Implant Posts
An implant post is a titanium screw (medical-grade) which doesn’t corrode and fuses permanently with human bone. With new technology is possible to place only four posts for a complete denture.
Implant Crown
A tooth crown is the tooth portion that is visible. The crown is usually made of porcelain which will reassemble your natural teeth or can be altered for aesthetic purposes.
Implant Abutment
The abutment is a screw like structure that holds the post and crown together. This structure reinforces the implant and will be placed the same day as the surgery.
